The 2016 First Hawaiian Bank Annual Report presented new and unique challenges. During that year, the bank issued an Initial Public Offering of stock and delivered its first report in 15 years as a public company. The report was aimed at two distinct audiences: 1) The former audience consisting of local customers, government officials and prospective clients, ranging from the largest Hawaii companies to individual consumers wanting to open a Personal Banking account; and 2) Shareholders in the new First Hawaiian Inc., ranging from large institutional investors (mutual funds, pension funds) to individual shareholders in Hawaii and around the Mainland.
Design Solution: The First Hawaiian Bank CEO wanted to emphasize that Hawai’i is a thriving city with a robust business environment… not just a vacation destination. Our company designed the cover to illustrate Honolulu as a booming business city through the imagery. Downtown Honolulu is the heart of Hawaiʻiʻs business community—you can see the construction and movement, while the sunrise eludes to a bright future and growth. A foil was used on the cover to give it more dimension in a subtle and classy way, given the conservative nature of the bank. Inside pages were designed to attractively present financial data and trends while using large photo spreads of customers to support the company’s “relationship bank” mission statement.
